How Indoor Air Quality Affects You

The most common signs that your indoor air quality may be affecting you includes these symptoms:

  • Irritation to eyes, nose and throat
  • Headaches
  • Sneezing
  • Dizziness or Fatigue
  • Asthma

You can narrow down whether your symptoms are caused by poor indoor air quality by how you feel outside of that environment. Do the headaches and sneezing hit you after you've been home for a little while? Do you feel better after you have been gone for a while? Have you had the air quality tested in your home?

Once you have determined you have an air quality problem in your home, it is time to look for solutions that do not require you to pack up and move. That is where an AC repair and installation company can help you. Here are some possible solutions:

Ventilation Improvements: The ventilation system circulates air through the house but does not necessarily bring in fresh air. Opening doors or windows can circulate the air and bring in outdoor air, but if you suffer from allergies to weeds, pollen and grasses, the results may be just as uncomfortable. A professional HVAC company can determine how best to make a ventilation improvement.

Air Cleaner:  Contact your local heating and air conditioning specialist about installing an air cleaner onto your existing ventilation system. An air cleaner cycles the air through a series of filters before the air is pushed back out into your home

Set up and adhere to a regular air conditioner and furnace maintenance schedule: Part of what your technician will do is clean your units of debris and dust that may be affecting the air quality. Do your part by changing filters at least on a monthly basis

New Equipment: If you furnace and air conditioner are several years old, check into the features of new equipment. New units are designed to circulate air differently and may help control your overall air quality.
