Make a New Year’s Resolution for You and Your Home

Every year, we make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier, exercise, put more into our savings. However, we usually don’t seem to think about making resolutions that will improve our home.  Here are some New Year’s resolutions that we could recommend that would improve the integrity of your home.

Check Registers.  Do you have furniture that is blocking registers?  If so, move your furniture so all registers are freely heating your home properly.

Save Energy Costs.  Buy a programmable thermostat so you can heat and cool your home when you and your family are there and not while you are away at work.  You can modify and program your setting differently while you are sleeping also.   According to Energy Star, a programmable thermostat can save you $180 per year in energy costs.

Double check and change the air filters.   Slow air flow can increase energy costs.  Be sure and change your air filters at least every 3 months.

Seal around the vents.  Check the seals around any vents.  Air can be lost under the floor or in the attic costing you energy dollars.  Check and reseal, if necessary.

Resolve to have regular maintenance on your system.  Your system should be checked at least annually.  However, it would be ideal to have it checked prior to each peak-use season.  So have your system checked before turning your heat on and prior to using your ac for the first time in the summer.  Have the efficiency of the air distribution checked also.  This can have an impact of the overall heating and cooling of your home.

A simple yearly maintenance will be worth the cost. If you still haven’t had your heating system cleaned and inspected by Roscoe Brown, contact us today. A clean, well-maintained system operates more efficiently and saves you money by using less energy and fuel.
